Privacy policy
Social Capital helps you remember the people your work depends on and follow through on what you promised them. That only works if you can trust us with what you capture, so this policy sets out what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the control you have.
The short version. What you capture is yours. It’s encrypted in transit, you can delete anything at any time, we never sell your data, and we never use it for ads.
Who we are
Social Capital (“we”, “us”) provides the Social Capital app for iOS and Android and this website. We are the controller of the personal data described here. You can reach us about anything in this policy at [email protected].

The app only uses your microphone when you choose to record a voice memo.

We never sell your data, never use it to show you ads, and never track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
Automated processing
Some features use automated processing, including AI models run by our service providers, to transcribe voice memos and to pick out people, topics and promises from what you capture. This is done only to provide those features to you. The results can be wrong, so check anything important. You can edit or delete anything the app produces.
Information about other people
Social Capital is a personal tool, and you decide what to record about the people you know. Please only record what you have a fair reason to keep, and keep it professional and respectful. We process that information on your behalf only to provide the service to you. We never contact the people you record, and we never show their details to other users.
If you think information about you is held in someone’s Social Capital account, write to [email protected] and we’ll help as far as we can.
Who helps us run the service
We use carefully chosen service providers who process data on our behalf, and only to run the service:
- cloud hosting and database providers, which store your account and what you capture
- AI providers, which transcribe voice memos and process notes to pick out people and promises
- notification services (including Apple and Google), which deliver reminders to your device
- crash reporting and product analytics tools, which help us fix problems
- Cloudflare, which hosts this website and provides privacy-friendly, cookie-free visit statistics
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect people’s safety, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy continues to apply to your data. You can ask us for the current list of providers at any time.
International transfers
Our providers may process data outside the country you live in, including in the United States. Where UK or EU law requires it, we rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
How long we keep it
- Your account and everything you capture: for as long as your account is open.
- Anything you delete in the app: removed from the service when you delete it.
- When you delete your account: we delete your data from our live systems within 30 days. Copies in routine backups are overwritten on their normal cycle.
- Crash reports and technical logs: kept only as long as we need them to keep the service working.
- Messages to us: kept for as long as we need them to help you, and then deleted.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit between the app, our servers and our providers. Access is limited to the people who need it to run the service. No service can promise perfect security, but if a breach affects you we will tell you and the regulators as the law requires.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, including the UK, the EU and the UAE, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data
- correct it
- delete it
- restrict or object to how we use it
- send it to you or another service in a portable format
Email [email protected] from the address on your account and we’ll reply within one month. To delete your account, see Delete your account.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to your data protection authority, for example the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK (ico.org.uk). We’d appreciate the chance to put it right first.
Cookies and this website
This website doesn’t use advertising or tracking cookies. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies or identify individual visitors. Our fonts are hosted on this site, so no third-party font service sees your visit.
Children
Social Capital is for professionals and isn’t intended for anyone under 16. We don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make a significant change, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
